Maharashtra Develops Statewide Health Innovation Hub to Scale Digital Health Solutions

AI, digital health, health data and precision health are among the areas that could be examined through the Maharashtra Impact and Innovation Hub.

Maharashtra has been developing the Maharashtra Impact and Innovation Hub as a statewide platform to connect healthcare stakeholders, test innovations in real-world settings, and build evidence for solutions that could strengthen access, quality, and equity under the state’s “Health for All” vision.

The model will bring together government agencies, healthcare providers, private-sector organisations, academic institutions, innovators and development partners to identify local health priorities and develop solutions around them.

Artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, health data and precision health are among the areas that could be examined through the Maharashtra Impact and Innovation Hub.

Proposed interventions will be tested in real-world healthcare environments, with evidence and implementation experience expected to inform decisions on whether and how successful approaches can be expanded.

A major focus will be connecting Maharashtra’s extensive private healthcare ecosystem with public health priorities. The platform is expected to create opportunities for different stakeholders to jointly develop solutions that are affordable, accessible and responsive to local requirements.

The initiative will also explore potential opportunities for skilling, employment and enterprise development linked to community health needs as the model evolves.

The approach is already being reflected through Manyata, the Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Societies of India’s (FOGSI) flagship quality-improvement initiative.

Manyata works with private healthcare facilities to strengthen maternal healthcare practices, complementing government efforts and demonstrating how quality improvement in the private sector can support broader public health objectives.

The Maharashtra Impact and Innovation Hub is expected to serve both as a collaboration platform and as a mechanism for generating evidence.

Successful interventions could be refined based on implementation experience before being considered for wider adoption across Maharashtra and potentially in other settings.

The initiative is being supported by MSD for Mothers, which is convening a consortium of grantees and collaborators to contribute to the development of the model.

The Maharashtra Impact and Innovation Hub will place community needs and local ownership at the centre while seeking stronger connections between innovators, health systems and care providers.
