Kolkata Hospitals Begin Ayushman Bharat Integration After Govt Approval
This activity follows the state’s recent approval to adopt Ayushman Bharat, which had earlier not been implemented in West Bengal. The decision is aimed at enabling residents to access the Centre’s ₹5 lakh annual health cover per family and benefit from a wider national hospital network.
Hospitals across Kolkata have started logging into the Ayushman Bharat portal to initiate empanelment after the West Bengal government recently allowed the implementation of the central health insurance scheme in the state.
This activity follows the state’s recent legislative election and new government formation. Along with the PM Modi's announcement to expedite the adoption of approval to adopt Ayushman Bharat, which had earlier not been implemented in West Bengal.
The decision is aimed at enabling residents to access the Centre’s ₹5 lakh annual health cover per family and benefit from a wider national hospital network.
Both private and government hospitals are beginning the registration process on the Ayushman Bharat IT platform. This includes submitting required documents, updating infrastructure details, and applying for empanelment to offer services under the scheme.
Hospital authorities said teams have been assigned to complete onboarding formalities, and many facilities that were already treating Ayushman beneficiaries from other states expect a faster transition. However, administrators noted that full-scale implementation will depend on further clarity from the state on operational guidelines.
Hospitals are awaiting detailed instructions regarding package rates, claim settlement processes, and integration with the existing Swasthya Sathi scheme. There is currently no official confirmation on whether the state scheme will be discontinued, but a temporary overlap between the two is likely to ensure continuity of care.
Once fully implemented, the move is expected to expand cashless treatment access for eligible patients in Kolkata and streamline interstate healthcare services, though execution timelines will depend on administrative readiness and policy clarity.
