Intuitive Unveils Latest Generation of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System in India

The da Vinci 5 is designed to provide enhanced surgical senses and visualization through features such as Force Feedback Technology.

Intuitive, a global medtech leader, has launched the da Vinci 5, its latest-generation robotic-assisted surgical system, in India.

The Da Vinci 5 builds on the design of the da Vinci Xi system and features more than 150 enhancements.

The latest introduction of da Vinci 5 in India will initially enable selected hospitals and programmes to gain experience with the platform as robotic-assisted surgery continues to expand across the country.

The da Vinci 5 is designed to provide enhanced surgical senses and visualization through features such as Force Feedback Technology.

The technology is intended to strengthen intra-operative awareness of the forces exerted on tissue during procedures through the console hand controls, supporting better patient outcomes.

The system also includes a 3D vision system and an ergonomic surgeon console designed to support surgical workflow and user comfort.

The platform seeks to provide actionable insights through increased computing capacity, new sensors, software, and advanced processors.

According to Intuitive, da Vinci 5 has 10,000 times more computing power than previous da Vinci systems, aimed at enabling the collection and processing of additional data to help surgeons quantify and assess aspects of surgical performance.

Further, the system seeks to improve operational efficiency through greater surgeon autonomy with the integration of key components that surgeons can control at their fingertips.

The system also includes features designed to streamline surgical workflows. These include controls that allow surgeons to manage selected system components from the console, a common user interface for care teams, and dynamic assistance designed to automate selected tasks.

According to the company, Da Vinci 5 has been used by more than 15,000 surgeons globally.

Furthermore, the platform is reportedly cleared for use in India for surgical procedures including urologic, gynaecologic, and general surgery, as well as cardiac and thoracoscopic procedures.

The launch of da Vinci 5 adds to Intuitive’s existing portfolio of robotic-assisted surgical systems in India, with the company reporting that more than 200,000 procedures have been performed using da Vinci systems in the country to date
