He said India's scientific talent has always existed, but supportive policies are helping translate that capability into innovation and commercial outcomes.

India has strengthened its position in emerging technologies and has become well placed to contribute to the next industrial revolution, which Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh says will be driven by biotechnology and artificial intelligence.

He highlighted the country's policy initiatives, expanding innovation ecosystem and growing private-sector participation as indicators of this transition.

Speaking at an event, Dr Jitendra Singh said, "India will be an essential player in the next industrial revolution, which will be biotechnology and AI-driven, unlike the last industrial revolution, which was IT-driven and India was late in becoming a part of that."

He noted that India is among the few countries with a dedicated biotechnology policy under BioE3 and said the country has also made progress through the National Quantum Mission, IndiaAI Mission and advancements in the space sector.

Dr Jitendra Singh said biotechnology is expected to play an increasingly important role across healthcare, agriculture and food systems while creating new opportunities for employment and economic development.

He added that the global economy is steadily moving towards biotechnology, artificial intelligence, circular economy and other technology-intensive sectors, making it important for India to build capabilities in these areas.

He said India's scientific talent has always existed, but supportive policies are helping translate that capability into innovation and commercial outcomes.

Emphasising India's long-term development ambitions, Dr Jitendra Singh called for closer collaboration between government and industry to strengthen the country's global competitiveness in emerging technologies and innovation.
