IIT Kanpur Incubated Lenek Technologies Develops AI-powered Portable X-ray System

The startup has integrated the hardware platform with LIRA, its AI-powered radiology platform that can analyse chest X-rays, assess risks, and generate reports to support clinicians.

Kanpur-based Lenek Technologies has developed LeXIS, a battery-powered, ultraportable X-ray imaging system aimed at advancing access to imaging systems in remote locations.

LeXIS is designed for point-of-care imaging and remote diagnosis with a focus on accessibility, affordability, portability, and interoperability.

The system aims to bring diagnostic imaging closer to patients in remote regions, reducing the need to travel to hospitals or diagnostic centres for basic imaging services.

Incubated at IIT Kanpur, the startup has integrated the hardware platform with LIRA, its AI-powered radiology platform that can analyse chest X-rays, assess risks, and generate reports to support clinicians.

Developed in collaboration with IIT Kanpur and ICMR, the technology initially focuses on improving TB screening access, particularly in areas where conventional power infrastructure is unreliable.

It enables a licensed radiographer to operate the system, while its AI platform reads and examines chest X-rays, generates reports, and sends them to doctors remotely.

Founded by Chirag Agrawal and Sidesh Dhakar in 2021, Lenek is incubated at the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur, and operates its R&D and manufacturing facility from Technopark on the IIT Kanpur campus.

The startup’s initial focus has been closely tied to one of India’s major public-health challenges - tuberculosis.

By combining portable imaging with AI-assisted analysis, Lenek aims to reduce the dependence on large, fixed diagnostic setups and bring faster screening closer to patients who may otherwise have limited access to X-ray facilities.

The latest development builds on ongoing collaborations between IIT Kanpur and Lenek Technologies to develop AI-enabled solutions for lung screening.

In an earlier development, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital (KNMH), Prayagraj, partnered with IIT Kanpur on a portable AI-enabled device for lung cancer developed by Lenek Technologies to boost the early detection of lung cancer.
