GE Launches bkActiv S Series to Support Modern Surgical Procedures

GE’s bkActive S series ultrasounds are designed to provide detailed and real-time surgical visualisation during urology, colorectal, and pelvic floor procedures.

GE HealthCare, a leading global medical technology, pharmaceutical diagnostics and digital solutions innovator, has launched bkActiv S series, a next-gen intraoperative ultrasound system.

The series has been added to the company's bkPortfolio family of active imaging systems, providing interventional guidance in nonsurgical urology procedures.

According to the company, this next-generation system could be used for procedures ranging from biopsies to advanced robotic surgeries.

Developed by GE HealthCare’s subsidiary BK Medical, bkActiv provides surgeons with advanced ultrasound guidance, ensuring better performance while offering them a user-friendly experience.

Additionally, with automatic no-touch autogain and advanced algorithms, bkActiv delivers improved image quality that enhances decision-making during surgical procedures.

GE HealthCare surgical visualisation and guidance, ultrasound general manager Urvi Vyas said, “By expanding the bkActiv system, we are giving physicians the tools they need to provide precise treatment with the ability to see fine details in image guidance.”

Advanced Features & AI Tools

The bkActiv S series includes TruSense technology, allowing users to personalize their preferred layout for efficiency.

Clinicians can capture images with high resolution, while smart digital tools help improve contrast and detail resolution with a range of high-performance transducers.

The system's Image Compare mode helps clinicians retrieve a stored image and view it alongside a live ultrasound image, enabling real-time comparisons and measurements.

Additionally, the bkActiv S series also integrates PRISM Technology, an auto-optimization of images for exceptional detail and clarity. Its adaptive Noise Suppression reduces noise, enabling deeper visualization without haziness and automatically adjusting gain levels during imaging.

The series also includes an AI-based software PVA which can enhance the user experience and save time by automating prostate measurements with one click.

Paired with advanced sterilisable transducers, procedure packs and needle guides, the solution also supports surgeons in conducting simple procedures such as biopsies, as well as most advanced robotic surgeries.
