Exer AI has expanded its partnership with Mayo Clinic, deploying its computer vision and AI technology from research into clinical use within Mayo Clinic’s orthopaedic workflows.

The Colorado-based company's Exer Scan App uses AI to capture joint motion and movement data using smartphone, tablet, or laptop cameras.

The technology’s hand/wrist module enables rapid, camera-based functional assessment of hand and wrist mobility, strength proxies, and range-of-motion metrics.

The tool is designed to support clinical decision-making, documentation efficiency, and patient engagement.

By enabling assessments during both in-person and virtual visits, the tool aims to improve clinical efficiency, maintain structured documentation, and inform more personalized treatment plans.

According to the company, the App was developed by training its AI models to recognise and analyse human movement.

The company has worked across 14 clinical disciplines, including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, pain and spine, to develop algorithms for assessing different conditions and indications.

Currently, Exer AI has around 144 assessments, including evaluating movements like tremors, sit-to-stand, balance, joint range of motion, gait dynamics, functional movement patterns, and more.

Mayo Clinic was one of Exer AI's first research partners, with the collaboration initially established in 2024.

Through the extended partnership, Mayo Clinic will clinically integrate the company's hand/wrist module technology into its orthopedic workflow to support musculoskeletal care delivery.

The integration is designed to allow clinicians to use the Exer Scan App as part of their existing workflow by automatically transferring assessment results into the patient's health record through Epic.

This approach is expected to enable quantitative hand and wrist assessment results to become part of the patient’s longitudinal health record while reducing clinical burden.

Further, the platform is also integrated into the Epic billing system for coding and reimbursement.
