Cosmo to Begin First Clinical Study Integrating GI Genius & Apple Vision Pro

Cosmo will begin a study to test a software application that connects the Medtronic GI Genius AI endoscopy module with Apple Vision Pro during routine colonoscopies.

Dublin-based Cosmo Pharmaceuticals NV, a pharmaceutical company active in Healthtech AI, plans to initiate the first usability study connecting Medtronic GI Genius with Apple Vision Pro.

The study, set to begin in July 2025 at Rush University Medical Center, will evaluate a new software application allowing physicians to view AI-generated insights during live colonoscopy procedures.

Developed by Cosmo for Apple Vision Pro, the software allows physicians to view AI-assisted analysis from the GI Genius module directly within their field of vision.

“We are thrilled to be the first in the world to evaluate this technology in the endoscopy suite. What Cosmo has built by connecting the GI Genius™ module with Apple Vision Pro is extraordinary. It has the potential to revolutionize how we practice – by giving us AI-powered insights exactly when and where we need them. This is not just an incremental improvement – it’s a complete reimagining of procedural medicine, and I’m proud that Rush is leading the way,” said Irving Waxman, a professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

GI Genius, a computer-aided polyp detection system powered by AI, has been available in the US since 2021. It was designed to redefine GI screening by assisting gastroenterologists in performing colonoscopies.

Medtronic serves as the exclusive global distributor for the GI Genius’ latest iteration, launched by Cosmo last year, which includes the FDA-Cleared ColonPRO software.

This spatial experience is being studied for the first time in the GI Genius system, which uses artificial intelligence, and has been shown to increase the adenoma detection rate of colorectal polyps by up to 14.4%.

Giovanni Di Napoli, CEO of Cosmo (and former head of the Medtronic Gastrointestinal unit), said, “Developing this application for Apple Vision Pro has been an extraordinary journey, and the result will be a fusion of clinical AI experiences and spatial computing. This is what the future of medicine looks like: real-time AI, embedded naturally into the physician’s workflow by blending digital content with the physical world.”
