CM Sukhu Inaugurates INR 158 Cr 200-Bedded Hospital Building at Chamba Medical College

Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has inaugurated the INR 158 Cr, 200-bedded hospital building at Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, marking a major expansion of the state's healthcare infrastructure.

The new facility has started specialist clinical services while adding modern teaching and diagnostic infrastructure to improve healthcare access in the region.

Constructed at INR 158 crore, the 200-bedded hospital consists of Blocks A, B, and C and has been designed to support both patient care and academic activities.

The hospital offers Outpatient Department (OPD) services across eight major specialities: Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Chest and Tuberculosis (TB), Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG), and Dental.

It also houses a casualty unit, radiology department, operation theatre complex, and 200 inpatient beds to deliver advanced clinical services.

Following the inauguration, services in the Departments of Psychiatry, Gynaecology, and Dermatology became operational immediately, allowing patients in the district to access specialist consultations without travelling to larger cities.

Chief Minister Sukhu said, "Strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to quality medical services closer to people’s homes remained a top priority of the State Government. The new hospital will enhance patient care while providing improved working and learning facilities for doctors, nursing staff, medical students and other healthcare professionals."

He announced plans to equip Chamba Medical College with a new X-ray machine, laparoscopic equipment, a CT scan machine, and an advanced 3-Tesla MRI system comparable to facilities available at AIIMS New Delhi.

He also directed officials to prepare a proposal for establishing 20 ICU beds at the medical college.

Sukhu also said the government would explore introducing robotic surgery once faculty positions are adequately filled and is considering a policy to send doctors abroad for exposure visits to advanced healthcare systems.

The inauguration formed part of the Chief Minister's visit to Chamba, during which he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 26 development projects worth INR 333.25 Cr across the constituency.
