The Centre of Excellence will provide robotic-assisted treatment for a broad spectrum of congenital and acquired pediatric urological conditions.

Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai, has inaugurated South India’s first Centre of Excellence in Pediatric Robotic Urology, strengthening its pediatric robotic surgery programme with a dedicated facility focused on minimally invasive treatment for congenital and acquired urological conditions in children.

The centre builds on a programme that has completed more than 400 pediatric robotic procedures since its launch in 2012, under the leadership of Dr V. Sripathi, Senior Consultant Pediatric Urologist and Robotic Surgeon.

Over the past decade, the programme has become one of India’s early adopters of robotic-assisted pediatric urology and has now been formalized into a dedicated Centre of Excellence.

The programme has also demonstrated the feasibility of robotic-assisted surgery in very young patients, with its smallest successfully treated patient being just 50 days old and weighing 3.5 kilograms.

The Centre of Excellence will provide robotic-assisted treatment for a broad spectrum of congenital and acquired pediatric urological conditions.

By enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions, robotic systems can help reduce postoperative pain, minimize blood loss, shorten hospital stays, and support faster recovery when clinically appropriate.

The Centre of Excellence was inaugurated by Dr Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai Region, along with Dr Sushila Narayanasamy, Unit Head, Apollo Women’s & Children’s Hospitals.
