Ambience Healthcare Launches Chart Chat, AI Copilot for Nurses Integrated With EHR

Ambience Healthcare has rolled out Chart Chat for Nursing, the first AI conversational tool integrated with electronic health records (EHR) specifically designed for inpatient nurses.

The tool enables nurses to ask plain-language questions about patient charts, with responses sourced from physician notes, hospital policies, documentation, orders, and recent lab results, each accompanied by full citations.

Cleveland Clinic is the first health system to pilot Chart Chat, helping Ambience develop its “purpose-built nursing roadmap” and gather nurse feedback for future enhancements. Executives said the tool addresses a major challenge for nurses: the overwhelming volume of patient information rather than a lack of data.

Chart Chat includes multiple safeguards to ensure patient safety. Responses undergo standard deployment evaluations, real-time monitoring, and continuous “nurse-in-the-loop” feedback. When the AI encounters ambiguity or insufficient data, it explicitly informs the nurse rather than providing uncertain answers.

Nurses using the tool reported significant time savings, particularly when managing complex, long-stay patients. They noted that Chart Chat helps with handoff preparation, tracking care trends, and obtaining quick answers to specific clinical questions. According to Tanha Kabir, Ambience Healthcare’s Head of Product, nurses said the tool helps them “build a richer, more confident understanding” of patients while freeing up more time for bedside care.

Studies highlight that U.S. nurses spend 25% to 41% of their time on documentation, underscoring the need for tools like Chart Chat to streamline workflows. Ambience’s AI documentation platform, launched in 2020, automates recording of patient encounters, provides specialty-specific chart summaries, and supports clinical documentation integrity and point-of-care coding.

In July 2025, Ambience secured $243 million in Series C funding, marking one of the largest health tech raises that year. The company continues to expand its AI offerings, including last fall’s ICD-10 clinical document integrity assistant, further supporting allied health and nursing staff.
