The features include automated image capture, anatomical landmark detection, real-time image quality assessment and fetal biometry.

Chennai-based pathology and diagnostic provider Aarthi Scans & Labs and US-based AI healthtech startup Origin Medical have expanded their five-year collaboration to advance AI-Enabled Prenatal Ultrasound, aiming to improve the quality, consistency and accessibility of prenatal imaging.

The partnership has developed AI-powered tools that support radiologists and fetal medicine specialists with faster, standardised and clinically validated prenatal assessments.

The collaboration has brought together Aarthi Scans & Labs and Origin Medical Research Lab India, the research and development arm of Origin Medical, to develop artificial intelligence solutions for maternal-fetal imaging.

Over the past five years, the partners have created and validated technologies designed for high-volume clinical environments, helping clinicians deliver more reliable prenatal ultrasound examinations while improving workflow efficiency.

The AI-Enabled Prenatal Ultrasound platform developed through the collaboration supports several stages of the ultrasound workflow, including automated image capture, anatomical landmark detection, real-time image quality assessment and fetal biometry.

The technology also provides instant feedback to help clinicians capture all required anatomical views in line with international practice guidelines, while automated fetal measurements are intended to improve consistency across different centres.

“Prenatal ultrasound plays a critical role in monitoring fetal development and enabling timely clinical decisions during pregnancy. However, ensuring consistency and quality in fetal imaging across high-volume and diverse healthcare settings continues to be a challenge,” said Dr Arunkumar Govindarajan, Radiologist and Executive Director, Aarthi Scans & Labs.

He added that the collaboration with Origin Medical Research Lab is focused on closing this gap through clinically validated AI solutions that support specialists in delivering more standardised and accurate prenatal assessments, with the broader objective of improving access to high-quality maternal healthcare in a rapidly growing market like India.

“Aarthi Scans & Labs has been one of our first and foundational partners from day one, and their clinical rigour, scale and commitment to innovation have been central to the progress we have made in AI-driven prenatal imaging,” said Sripad Krishna Devalla, co-founder and CEO of Origin Medical.

According to the organisations, multiple studies have demonstrated strong performance in identifying complete fetal anatomy, including the fetal central nervous system, highlighting the technology's potential to strengthen routine anomaly detection.
