ZEISS Medical Technology has announced a strategic collaboration with Envision Health Technologies to advance glaucoma care through virtual reality (VR)-based visual function testing.
The partnership brings together ZEISS’ expertise in perimetry and Envision’s software-driven digital eye health technologies to support the development of clinically relevant tools aimed at improving access to glaucoma screening and monitoring.
The collaboration comes as healthcare providers seek more flexible and accessible approaches to visual function testing. Growing demand for broader glaucoma screening programs and workflow efficiencies has increased interest in portable, software-based diagnostic technologies.
According to ZEISS, the initiative will focus on strengthening the scientific and clinical foundation of VR-based visual function testing while supporting the development of patient-centered solutions for modern glaucoma care.
“As glaucoma care continues to evolve, clinicians are looking for solutions that improve patient accessibility, flexibility and experience without compromising clinical confidence,” said Anuj Kalra, Head of Chronic Disease Management at ZEISS Medical Technology. He added that the collaboration reflects ZEISS’ focus on clinician-driven innovation that can help expand access to visual function testing across different care settings.
Envision Health Technologies was founded by glaucoma surgeon Dr. Lama A. Al-Aswad, who developed the company to address challenges associated with vision-threatening diseases through data-driven technologies.
“We believe the future of visual function testing should be more accessible, flexible, and patient-centered while remaining grounded in clinical rigor,” said Dr. Al-Aswad, Founder and CEO of Envision Health Technologies. She said the collaboration combines software innovation with ZEISS’ long-standing experience in perimetry to support practical solutions for glaucoma management.
Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that can lead to irreversible vision loss if not detected and managed early. Visual field testing remains a key component of glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring, making advances in testing technologies a significant area of focus for ophthalmology providers.
ZEISS said the collaboration aligns its long-term innovation strategy in visual field testing with Envision’s expertise in virtual reality and software-enabled visual function assessment. The companies will work together to explore the future direction of VR perimetry and related technologies designed to support glaucoma care.
