Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the Atal MedTech Museum & Library at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam, bringing together historical insights, advanced technologies, and knowledge resources to present a comprehensive view of medical innovation.

The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), established as India’s first dedicated medical device manufacturing cluster, has been central to strengthening domestic production and reducing import dependency. Over the years, it has evolved into a collaborative ecosystem that supports startups, MSMEs, and global players with infrastructure for research, prototyping, and large-scale manufacturing.

The newly launched museum has been conceived as a tribute to Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee and traces the evolution of healthcare technologies, from early medical practices to cutting-edge innovations shaping modern medicine.

It integrates interactive elements such as augmented and virtual reality experiences, offering real-world simulations in surgical precision, diagnostics, and clinical training. A 3D visual installation highlights Vajpayee’s vision for a technologically advanced and self-reliant India.

The library component complements the museum with an RFID-enabled system and a collection of over 1,100 books, journals, and clinical resources. Designed as a knowledge hub, it is expected to support students, researchers, and healthcare professionals seeking insights into medical science and innovation.

During the event, Naidu toured the AMTZ campus and interacted with key stakeholders, including Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ. New partnership agreements with IKSANA and Medpolis were announced to further expand the MedTech ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, Naidu emphasized the importance of integrated innovation hubs. “Centres like Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone stand as pillars of the present, driving towards a future of transformative innovation and globally competitive healthcare manufacturing. AMTZ has created a comprehensive ecosystem that brings together scientific facilities, regulatory support, prototyping, and manufacturing infrastructure under one roof, enabling startups, MSMEs, and global manufacturers to collaborate and deliver affordable, high-quality medical technologies.”

He further added, “Such institutions reflect India’s growing capability to reduce import dependence and move towards self-reliance in medical devices, in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat." Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone truly stands as a ‘mini-India’ of innovation, showcasing how integrated ecosystems can transform healthcare delivery and strengthen India’s global position in MedTech."

Dr Jitendra Sharma highlighted the journey of AMTZ and acknowledged Naidu’s role in its early development, noting its transformation into a globally recognized MedTech hub. Industry representatives also underscored the zone’s rapid growth and expanding manufacturing capabilities.
