TDB Partners with Griva Healthcare to Expand  AI-powered Cancer Screening with 'GrivaVision'

The collaboration aims to support the manufacture and commercialisation of an indigenously developed, AI-enabled portable digital colposcope 'GrivaVision'.

The Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has signed an agreement with Visakhapatnam-based Griva Healthcare to strengthen access to early cancer screening.

The collaboration aims to support the manufacture and commercialisation of an indigenously developed, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled portable digital colposcope 'GrivaVision'.

GrivaVision is designed as a portable diagnostic platform that integrates a high-definition camera, an in-built display, a user-friendly interface, advanced optics, and indigenous AI-enabled software.

The device is designed to support gynaecologists in visualising the vaginal canal and examining cervical lesions during routine clinical examinations.

The Partnership Deal

Through the collaboration, TDB will support the company in establishing manufacturing capacity in Kollam, Kerala, enabling extensive commercial-scale production and wider deployment of the technology.

This initiative seeks to make cervical cancer screening more accessible and affordable, especially in primary and community healthcare centers.

In addition, it is also expected to enhance domestic capabilities in advanced medical devices and reduce dependence on imported diagnostic equipment.

According to the company, GrivaVision has been developed according to the Automated Visual Assessment (AVE) standards approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), and its software is ABDM compliant, enabling its integration with India's evolving digital health ecosystem.

The product is a category B non-invasive medical device and is licensed to manufacture by the CDSCO as category B. It is being developed to ISO 13485 quality standards. The hardware architecture is the company's own specialty and is patented by Griva Healthcare in India.

As per reports, the company is currently engaged in R&D work at AIC-AMTZ Medivalley, Visakhapatnam.

The TDB-supported project is expected to facilitate the transition from the current R&D stage towards commercial manufacturing at the proposed Kerala facility.

The technology has been developed and manufactured in India, and more than 50% of its product components are currently indigenously sourced, as stated by the company.

Large-scale commercialisation is expected to further strengthen the home medical device value chain and create a cost-effective Indian option in cervical cancer diagnosis.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said, “Early detection can make a decisive difference in addressing cervical cancer. Indigenous technologies such as GrivaVision demonstrate how medical devices, digital health and artificial intelligence can come together to address a critical healthcare need at scale.TDB’s support is aimed at taking such home-grown innovations from technology development to commercial manufacturing, making advanced screening solutions more accessible while strengthening India’s self-reliance in medical technologies.”
