Alongside the funding announcement, co-founder and CEO Enhao Gong, PhD, will transition to the role of Chief Science Officer.

AI-powered medical imaging software company Subtle Medical has raised $33 million in Series C funding and appointed healthcare technology executive Ohad Arazi as its new chief executive officer as the company looks to accelerate global expansion and commercial growth.

The Menlo Park, California-based startup said the funding round was led by funds managed by Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital, with participation from Shinhan Venture Investment and existing investors Fusion Fund, EnvisionX, BRV, and Samsung Ventures. The latest investment brings the company’s total funding to $86 million.

Subtle Medical develops vendor-neutral artificial intelligence software designed to improve medical imaging quality and accelerate scan times without requiring hospitals to replace existing imaging equipment. The company’s solutions are used across MRI, PET, and CT imaging workflows.

Alongside the funding announcement, co-founder and CEO Enhao Gong, PhD, will transition to the role of Chief Science Officer. In his new position, Gong will oversee the company’s scientific strategy and continue supporting operations and partnerships in China. Arazi will lead Subtle Medical’s next phase of commercial growth.

Founded out of Stanford University by Gong and neuroradiologist Greg Zaharchuk, MD, PhD, Subtle Medical uses machine learning and generative AI technologies to enhance image quality and reduce scan times. Its MRI software enables facilities to complete scans up to 80% faster, while its PET imaging solutions support lower-dose and faster scans.

According to the company, its AI tools are currently deployed on more than 1,300 scanners worldwide across health systems, imaging networks, and academic medical centers. The company has also secured 11 U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearances and published more than 25 peer-reviewed research papers.

Subtle Medical said the new funding will be used to advance product development, expand commercial adoption, and scale its imaging platform globally. The company is also advancing AI-enabled contrast imaging technologies through partnerships, including a collaboration with Bracco Imaging, and is developing new CT imaging solutions with FDA clearance pending.

Arazi brings experience from leadership roles at Clarius, Zebra Medical Vision, Genoox, TELUS Health, and Change Healthcare. He said the company’s focus will be on expanding adoption among hospitals and health systems while increasing imaging capacity using existing infrastructure.

Subtle Medical is targeting break-even profitability within the next 24 months as it expands into new markets and customer segments.
