SCAN Health Plan and Walmart Partner on Medicare Advantage Plans

Under the partnership, SCAN and Walmart plan to connect the Medicare Advantage offerings with Walmart’s health and wellness products and services, as well as its technology capabilities.

SCAN Health Plan and Walmart are partnering to launch co-branded Medicare Advantage (MA) plans in two states, with the proposed offerings subject to regulatory review and approval, the companies announced Wednesday.

Under the partnership, SCAN and Walmart plan to connect the Medicare Advantage offerings with Walmart’s health and wellness products and services, as well as its technology capabilities. Potential benefits could include pharmacy services, vision services, food benefits, and over-the-counter allowances.

Walmart will also bring its artificial intelligence-driven platform, Everyday Health Signals, into the partnership. The platform enables users to share wellness goals and receive personalized health insights.

“When members choose to opt in, data can help us deliver a more relevant experience tailored to their needs,” said Zack Myers, national general manager at SCAN Health Plan. He said the companies plan to combine Walmart’s technology and consumer retail capabilities with SCAN’s Medicare product experience.

The partnership could also use insights from Walmart’s retail ecosystem to support health-related decision-making. According to Walmart U.S. Group Director for Consumer Health and Data Solutions Pravene Nath, the company has helped customers navigate Medicare choices for more than a decade.

Nath said customers who choose to participate could receive more relevant nutrition guidance based on insights from their shopping experiences. The proposed plans would also draw on Walmart’s presence across food, pharmacy, vision, and other health and wellness services.

The announcement follows SCAN Health Plan’s recent expansion of its relationship with Costco. SCAN and Costco initially partnered in October, with plans including a Medicare Advantage offering in two states and Medicare supplement coverage in a third state.

The Walmart partnership remains subject to regulatory review and required approvals before the proposed Medicare Advantage offerings can launch.
