Tripura Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital has announced plans to develop a multi-specialty hospital in Tripura aimed at expanding healthcare infrastructure in the Agartala and Northeast region.
The project is being undertaken by the West Bengal-based Swadhin Trust and will be located on the outskirts of Agartala.
According to the institution, the proposed facility will be the largest private multi-specialty hospital in Tripura.
Designed as a comprehensive, multi-modality institution, the new hospital will provide a wide range of services including cardiology, neurology, oncology, paediatrics and gynaecology.
The facility is also supported by modern emergency services, telemedicine, tele-ICU, teleradiology and advanced research facilities.
According to the Trust's leadership, it is envisioned as "a world-class medical institution" offering the full spectrum of specialty care under one roof.
As per the announcement, the Tripura institution is also being developed as a fully women-run medical college and super-specialty hospital spanning administration, clinical services, financial planning and technical operations, a distinctive model in Indian healthcare.
The Tripura project builds on the Trust’s established presence in West Bengal, where Santiniketan Medical College & Hospital at Bolpur, Birbhum, has grown into a multi-modality teaching hospital with an approved undergraduate medical intake and steadily expanding patient volumes
Together, the two campuses in West Bengal and Tripura are intended to support healthcare delivery and medical education across the two states.
The expansion comes amid growing demand for advanced healthcare services in the Northeast. According to the project announcement, Tripura continues to face gaps in access to specialised medical care, with many patients travelling to cities such as Silchar, Guwahati, and Kolkata for advanced treatment.
The project is intended to improve access to advanced medical services for patients in Tripura and neighbouring states, reducing the need for referrals to metropolitan centres for specialised treatment.
Once operational, the hospital is expected to enhance the availability of specialised healthcare services, support medical education and enhance clinical talent in Tripura, further expanding the region's healthcare infrastructure.
