Redesign Health, a US-based healthcare-focused venture capital firm, has expanded its commitment to India's digital health sector by launching a dedicated investment fund focused on healthcare AI startups.
Through a partnership with Mumbai-based Sky Impact Capital, the US-based venture builder plans to support founders at the idea and pre-seed stages while helping them develop solutions that can scale both within India and internationally.
Although the fund's target corpus has not been disclosed, the firm plans to back five to six startups every year, focusing on entrepreneurs who are still refining ideas or preparing to launch their companies.
"We are excited to partner with Redesign Health, whose proven model brings a differentiated capability to the Indian market and is the right model to capitalize on India’s advantages to create and capture value in healthcare," said Aakash Sachdev, founder and managing partner of Sky Impact Capital and co-founder and GP of Redesign Health India.
According to Adam Jones, Managing Director at Redesign Health, India offers a unique combination of a large healthcare market, robust digital infrastructure, collaborative healthcare institutions, and deep engineering talent that makes it an ideal environment for building AI-powered healthcare companies.
"We've surveyed the world and come to the conclusion that India is one of the very best places in the world to be building the next generation of healthcare AI businesses," Jones said.
"We are focused on matching exceptional founders with high-conviction ideas and endowing them with unfair advantages from inception," he added.
Redesign Health has already established a 12-member team across Bengaluru and Mumbai to work alongside its global network.
The firm sees opportunities in AI solutions that improve healthcare access in Tier II and Tier III cities, enable speciality care providers to expand, strengthen healthcare payment systems, support India's medical tourism sector, and advance preventive healthcare.
"We're especially concerned about preventive care, not only because it's a great business opportunity, but because it's critical to improve quality of life for patients and keep costs down from a system level," Jones said.
The firm plans to leverage its relationships with healthcare providers, insurers, diagnostics companies, pharmaceutical firms, and investors across the US and the Middle East to help founders secure pilot projects, strategic partnerships, and future funding.
The firm also sees opportunities for collaboration with India's pharmaceutical industry, particularly in AI solutions that improve research, operational workflows, and commercial performance. However, it will continue to prioritise software-led healthcare businesses over capital-intensive areas such as molecular drug discovery and medical devices.
Founded in 2018, Redesign Health has helped launch numerous healthcare companies, while its portfolio has collectively reached more than 15 million patients and attracted over $1.5 billion in funding.
The firm also raised a $175 million investment fund in late 2024, strengthening its capacity to support the next generation of healthcare innovation globally.
