California-based computational biotechnology company Omios Biologics has introduced the Omios Discovery Engine (ODE), a viral evolution-based computational platform designed to identify new therapeutic targets by analyzing how viruses interact with human biology. The platform aims to convert viral-host interaction patterns into actionable drug discovery insights for multiple disease areas.

The company stated that the platform is already contributing to its therapeutic pipeline, with three biomarker-guided therapies for aggressive solid tumours generated using the system. These programs are now progressing toward clinical development in collaboration with a major US cancer centre.

Omios Discovery Engine is built to address a long-standing gap in drug discovery, where many therapeutic candidates fail due to incomplete understanding of disease mechanisms and suboptimal target selection. The platform uses viral evolutionary biology as a framework to map disease vulnerabilities at a computational scale.

“Viruses have spent hundreds of thousands of years evolving mechanisms to manipulate human biology,” said Aldo Pourchet, chief executive officer of Omios Biologics. “We built Omios Discovery Engine to systematically identify and harness these mechanisms for therapeutic discovery. By combining viral biology with large-scale computational analysis, we uncover highly relevant disease targets and develop safer and better-performing therapeutic strategies.”

The company said it is expanding its computational infrastructure alongside the platform rollout and scaling its therapeutic development pipeline. In oncology, Omios is currently advancing its biomarker-guided programs while also broadening the platform’s application scope.

“We look at how viruses hack human cells and mine this for therapies,” said Anand Pai, CTO of Omios Biologics. “Omios Discovery Engine provides a computational framework for identifying viral mechanisms that evolved to modulate critical human pathways. This approach enables us to uncover biologically relevant and potentially druggable targets that may remain inaccessible through traditional discovery methods.”

Omios Biologics also recently received the Jury Prize at the 2026 competition organized by the French American Chamber of Commerce, recognizing its scientific and commercial progress. The company, founded in 2023, is now extending the ODE platform into autoimmune, metabolic, and neurodegenerative disease areas as part of its broader expansion strategy.
