The investment will be made through NATCO Pharma’s wholly owned subsidiaries. The company has also revised the entities participating in the investment and submitted details of the updated investment structure to the stock exchanges under the SEBI (LODR) Regulations.
NATCO had previously invested $8 million in eGenesis in 2024 through its wholly owned subsidiary, NATCO Pharma (Canada) Inc. Following completion of the latest proposed investment, NATCO’s total investment in eGenesis will rise to $24.70 million.
eGenesis is a US-based biotechnology company developing genome-engineering technologies aimed at enabling the transplantation of organs from genetically modified pigs into humans. Its technology platform is designed to address cross-species molecular incompatibilities and viral transmission risks associated with xenotransplantation.
The company’s EGEN (eGenesis Genome Engineering and Production) Platform uses genetic engineering to modify donor organs for potential use in human transplantation. eGenesis is currently advancing programs focused on kidney transplantation, acute liver failure and heart transplantation.
In March 2024, eGenesis announced the first transplant of a genetically modified pig kidney into a living human patient. The procedure was conducted under the US Food and Drug Administration’s Expanded Access pathway. The company subsequently reported additional porcine kidney transplants in two other patients.
The investment comes as eGenesis continues development of its xenotransplantation programs, which seek to address the shortage of organs available for patients requiring transplants.
