Mumbai-based Wockhardt Hospitals Launches Da Vinci X Robotic Surgery System

The latest launch is aimed at expanding its robotic-assisted surgical capabilities by combining advanced technology with multidisciplinary clinical expertise.

Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central has launched the Da Vinci X Robotic Surgical System to strengthen advanced surgical capabilities and minimally invasive procedures across multiple specialties.

The system combines high-definition 3D visualisation, wristed instruments, and surgeon-controlled robotic arms to facilitate precise instrument movements during surgery.

According to the hospital, the latest launch is aimed at expanding its robotic-assisted surgical capabilities by combining advanced technology with multidisciplinary clinical expertise.

The technology translates the surgeon’s hand movements into corresponding movements of the instruments, allowing surgeons to operate through small incisions.

Instead of operating independently, the platform enables surgeons to retain full control throughout the procedure with enhanced dexterity and control, supporting minimally invasive approaches where clinically appropriate.

It is intended for use across multiple specialties, including urology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery.

It is also designed to support precise tissue handling and access to confined anatomical spaces.

By supporting minimally invasive surgical techniques, the Da Vinci X system is expected to provide several potential benefits for suitable patients, including smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, less postoperative pain, and a faster return to normal activities and faster recovery. Outcomes, however, vary depending on the procedure and individual patient factors.

Commenting on the new robotic system, Dr. Virendra Chauhan, Regional Business Head-India and Group Head, International Business, Wockhardt Hospitals, said, “Robotic-assisted surgery represents an important evolution in minimally invasive surgery. With Da Vinci X, surgeons have access to enhanced visualisation and highly articulated instruments that can support precise movements during complex procedures. The technology does not replace surgical expertise; it adds another layer of precision and control to it. Our focus will be on using this technology appropriately for patients who can benefit from a minimally invasive approach.”
