Ministry of Ayush Expands AI Use Across Ayurveda and Traditional Medicine

The initiative builds on the Ministry’s Ayush Grid digital infrastructure and includes AI-powered chatbots and assistants designed for citizens, researchers, students, practitioners and other stakeholders.

The Ministry of Ayush is expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Ayurveda and the wider Ayush ecosystem, with applications spanning healthcare, research, education, medicinal-plant trade and investment facilitation.

The initiative builds on the Ministry’s Ayush Grid digital infrastructure and includes AI-powered chatbots and assistants designed for citizens, researchers, students, practitioners and other stakeholders.

Among the applications is the MAISP Chatbot, which provides conversational access to information related to Ayurveda and other Ayush systems. The ARP Research Assistant, a generative AI-based tool, has been integrated with the Ayush Research Portal to help researchers navigate Ayurveda and other Ayush literature.

For educational institutions, the eLMS Chatbot supports AI-based Student Life Cycle Management. The e-CHARAK Chatbot provides assistance related to medicinal-plant trade, while Yoga Saarthi offers AI-based yoga recommendations. Nivesh Saarthi functions as an AI assistant for investment-related information in the Ayush sector.

The Ministry’s AI work was also featured in the AI Impact Casebook on Health, developed in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and presented at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026. The casebook included a Ministry of Ayush use case titled “AI-driven Decision Support for Ayurveda: A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Approach.”

The Ministry is also participating in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, focusing on AI applications tailored to the Ayush sector. Identified use cases include voice-based electronic health records, disease-trend detection and personalized treatment-support solutions.

In July 2025, the WHO, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released a technical brief examining AI applications in traditional medicine. The brief highlighted the need for responsible, evidence-informed and culturally appropriate approaches to AI in traditional medicine.

The Ministry has additionally partnered with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, to explore AI, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing for Ayush. Ministry artefacts are available on AI Kosh to support AI research and dissemination.

Through the Bhashini collaboration, Ayush Grid portals are now available in 22 scheduled Indian languages, expanding access for Ayurveda practitioners, students and citizens.
