Kotak Mahindra Bank Backs Upgraded Diagnostics at K J Somaiya Hospital, Mumbai

Dipak Gupta, former MD & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, inaugurated the MRI unit alongside Samir Somaiya, Chairman of K J Somaiya Medical Trust, and other dignitaries.

Mumbai-based K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre enhanced its diagnostic infrastructure via Kotak Mahindra Bank’s CSR initiative by adding a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit and ventilators for the pediatric NICU.

Dipak Gupta, former MD & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, inaugurated the MRI unit alongside Samir Somaiya, Chairman of K J Somaiya Medical Trust, and other dignitaries.

The hospital has shifted from an outsourced MRI model to an in-house facility, which has represented more than an infrastructure upgrade. It has delivered shorter waiting times, lower costs for patients, and greater care reliability benefits that have mattered most to those who can least afford delays or disruptions. The unit has also supported the hospital's academic and research work by integrating directly into clinical workflows.

Himanshu Nivsarkar, Head of CSR & ESG, Kotak Mahindra Bank, said, “Advanced diagnostics should not be a privilege. By supporting K J Somaiya Hospital’s move to an in-house MRI facility, we hope to make high-quality imaging more accessible and reliable, particularly for patients who would otherwise have limited recourse.”

This partnership with Kotak Mahindra Bank advances that goal, focusing on the practical impact of improved diagnostics for patients daily.

In a similar development, Kotak Alternate Asset Managers (Kotak Alts) has invested ₹40 crore in Mediversal Healthcare, a Patna-based multi-specialty hospital chain, to support its organic and inorganic expansion across Eastern India, including new facilities in Bihar and neighboring regions.

The funding round, which has also included participation from impact investor Asha Ventures, has enabled Mediversal, founded in 2020 and operating a 200+ bed hospital in Patna, to enhance infrastructure, scale digital capabilities, and improve accessible care for underserved communities.
