Humana said the distribution center is intended to strengthen its prescription delivery infrastructure in Florida and improve coordination for Humana members and CenterWell patients.

Humana has invested $83 million in a new pharmacy distribution center in Orlando as part of efforts to expand prescription delivery and pharmacy operations across the state.

The new 162,000-square-foot facility, operated through Humana’s CenterWell Pharmacy business, was officially announced on Wednesday. According to the company, the site can process up to 64,000 prescriptions per day and will employ approximately 165 people.

Humana said the distribution center is intended to strengthen its prescription delivery infrastructure in Florida and improve coordination for Humana members and CenterWell patients.

In addition to home delivery services for Humana beneficiaries, the facility will provide payer-agnostic pharmacy services, including direct-to-consumer and direct-to-employer partnerships. The company said these models are seeing increasing demand as prescription drug costs continue to rise.

“This new CenterWell Pharmacy reflects both our excitement for growth and our deep commitment to delivering better outcomes for patients,” Bethanie Stein, president of pharmacy at Humana, said in a statement.

Florida remains a major market for Humana. The insurer currently serves approximately 1.1 million Medicare Advantage members in the state, making it the largest Medicare Advantage carrier in Florida. The company also manages Medicaid plans covering around 540,000 individuals and provides TRICARE coverage to more than 770,000 residents.

Beyond insurance operations, Humana has a broad healthcare services footprint in Florida through its CenterWell, Conviva, and MaxHealth primary care businesses. The company operates about 200 primary care locations and 50 home health facilities across the state.

Humana said the new pharmacy center will also support workforce development initiatives and career training programs tied to CenterWell Pharmacy operations.

Sanjay Shetty, MD, president of CenterWell, said the investment is aimed at addressing growing healthcare demand linked to Florida’s expanding senior population while improving medication access and care coordination.

The company did not disclose a timeline for additional expansion projects tied to the facility.
