GIMS Appoints Dr Rahul Singh Amritraj as CEO & Director of Centre for Medical Innovation
His appointment as CEO and Director of CMI follows his earlier appointment as CEO of CIMS-GIMS Noida
The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has appointed Dr Rahul Singh Amritraj as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of its Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI).
The centre is recognized as India’s first public hospital-based medical innovation and incubation hub designed to foster healthcare research and startup-driven solutions from within a clinical setting.
It currently supports more than 40 healthcare startups, connecting clinicians, researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs to develop solutions informed by healthcare delivery needs.
Dr Amritraj was involved in conceptualising and establishing the centre. He previously served as Head of Incubation at GIMS, where he led initiatives supporting healthcare ventures.
His other roles at the institute included Administrative In-charge and Resident at the Isolation COVID-19 Control Room during the pandemic at GIMS.
Dr Amritraj brings experience in clinical practice and public health. He holds an interdisciplinary PhD focused on delays in oral cancer diagnosis, co-supervised by faculty from Sharda University and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He also holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi.
His appointment as CEO and Director of CMI follows his earlier appointment as CEO of CIMS-GIMS Noida. The appointment is expected to strengthen CMI’s efforts to position Uttar Pradesh as a hub for MedTech and AI-driven healthcare incubation.
Established under the StartInUP initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, CMI is intended to bridge the gap between clinicians, innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs, bringing real-world hospital insights directly into the innovation process.
The platform integrates several structured initiatives, including the GIMS Startup Clinic, which mentors early-stage healthcare ventures; the GIMS IPR Clinic, dedicated to intellectual property support; the MedTech Innovation Network, which connects innovators with industry experts; and disease-specific innovation cohorts targeting pressing medical challenges.
Under Dr Singh’s leadership, CMI organised the India Design by GIMS- NIRMAN initiative to support the co-development of Made-in-India healthcare technologies that are both affordable for domestic use and competitive in global markets.
In an earlier development, GIMS, through CMI, announced plans to launch the Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic in collaboration with Alkemi Growth Capital, a healthcare-focused investment platform with a stated corpus of INR 1,000 crore, and the MedTech Centre of Excellence (CoE) of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).
