Fortis Hospitals Unveils New Preventive Genomics Clinic in Bengaluru
By integrating genetics into the routine clinical workflow, the new initiative seeks to enable individuals to make informed healthcare decisions based on their genetic profile.
Fortis Hospitals, Bengaluru, has launched a Preventive Genomics Clinic across its Bengaluru network, aimed at strengthening preventive and precision-led healthcare.
The newly introduced clinic is designed to provide a wide range of advanced services, such as genetic testing, expert counselling, and personalized treatment pathways.
By integrating genetics into the routine clinical workflow, the new initiative seeks to enable individuals to make informed healthcare decisions based on their genetic profile.
The initiative was inaugurated by Prof. Padmanabhan Balaram, former Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), on the occasion of World DNA Day, in the presence of clinicians and hospital leadership.
Speaking at the launch, Prof. Padmanabhan Balaram said, “Genomics is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of healthcare by enabling deeper insights into disease mechanisms and individual risk profiles. Initiatives like this are critical in bridging advanced science with clinical practice, helping move healthcare towards a more preventive and personalised approach.”
In addition, by leveraging genomic insights, the initiative is intended to support early detection of inherited conditions, improve diagnosis of complex diseases, and provide more targeted therapeutic approaches.
Further, the clinic will also offer services such as whole genome and exome sequencing for rare and undiagnosed conditions, hereditary cancer screening for assessing cancer risks, pharmacogenomics for personalized drug response, and prenatal and newborn genetic screening.
Furthermore, it is also expected to provide specialized programmes in cardio genomics, neuro genomics, and ortho genomics, along with cancer-directed genomic testing and counselling for patients and families.
Commenting on the new initiative, Dr Vivek Jawali, Chairman, Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, said, “Genomics is transforming how we approach disease management, shifting from a one-size-fits-all approach to a personalised and precise care. This clinic brings together multiple specialties to leverage genetic insights for better diagnosis and treatment outcomes.”
