Cigna Healthcare Launches Health Sense to Personalize Benefits, Care & Clinical Support

Health Sense will begin rolling out in early 2027, initially for customers with oncology and cardiometabolic needs.

Cigna Healthcare has introduced Health Sense, a personalized support model that brings together health information, benefits, costs, and previous interactions to help people navigate care more easily.

The model is designed to provide customers and care teams a broader view of individual needs, helping people identify relevant resources and take the next step in their care journey.

Health Sense brings together information across Cigna Healthcare’s digital, customer support, care management, and clinical experiences.

The model can incorporate information on health needs, benefits, pharmacy coverage, costs, and previous interactions, including medical, behavioral health, and pharmacy claims when these services are administered by Cigna or an affiliated company.

“Data provides signals, but context gives those signals meaning,” said Dr. Stanley Crittenden, chief medical officer at Cigna Healthcare. “Health Sense combines that context with clinical expertise to help tailor support to the person, the decision and the moment. That fuller picture helps our clinical and care teams recognize potential needs earlier, connect people with relevant resources and make it easier for them to move from information to action with their treating providers.”

Health Sense is not intended to diagnose conditions, prescribe medicines, or change treatment plans. Instead, it is designed to complement the care provided by treating clinicians by helping customers understand options, identify in-network providers, anticipate costs, use available benefits, and prepare for appointments.

For example, a person undergoing cancer treatment may be connected more efficiently with case management, while someone managing a cardiometabolic condition may receive support related to medication adherence.

Cigna Healthcare expects Health Sense to reduce 10% of what it describes as inefficient healthcare spending by 2030.

The company estimates that about one-third of healthcare spending is associated with unnecessary or duplicative care, administrative complexity, poor coordination, and missed opportunities for timely intervention.

Health Sense will begin rolling out in early 2027, initially for customers with oncology and cardiometabolic needs.

Cigna Healthcare plans to expand the model to additional conditions, programs, and services as outcomes are evaluated.
