Bridge Neurotech Partners with Butterfly Network to Develop Non-Invasive Brain-Computer Interface

Bridge will license Butterfly Network’s Ultrasound-on-Chip technology through its Butterfly Embedded programme to investigate brain imaging and neural interaction without surgery or implanted devices.

Bridge Neurotech has entered into a research and development agreement with Butterfly Network to explore a fully non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) using ultrasound technology.

Under the multi-year agreement, Bridge will license Butterfly Network’s Ultrasound-on-Chip technology through its Butterfly Embedded programme to investigate brain imaging and neural interaction without surgery or implanted devices.

The agreement includes payments to Butterfly for technology access and development milestones, along with commitments for Bridge to purchase Butterfly hardware.

The partnership will focus on exploring whether programmable ultrasound technology can support real-time brain imaging and interaction.

Founded in 2026, California-based Bridge Neurotech is building a non-invasive interface for the mind. The company is developing a functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI) platform with AI-based neural decoding for brain-computer interface applications.

It aims to image the brain's activity without surgery or other modifications to the body. The company is backed by investors including General Catalyst, reMind Capital, Sunflower Capital, and Scott Sandell.

Commenting on the partnership, Biederman, Founder and CEO of Bridge Neurotech, said, “We started Bridge because we believe the pieces are finally in place to make a non-invasive brain-computer interface possible, and ultrasound is central to that opportunity. Butterfly has already brought ultrasound onto a fully integrated semiconductor chip, giving us a powerful and programmable foundation as we work toward real-time, non-invasive interaction with the brain.”

Butterfly's Ultrasound-on-Chip platform integrates ultrasound capabilities onto a semiconductor chip, providing a programmable foundation for applications beyond conventional diagnostic imaging.

Recently, it announced another collaboration with Merge Labs focused on developing ultrasound-based brain-computer interfaces.

Speaking on the new development, Joseph DeVivo, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Butterfly Network, said, “One of the most fundamental challenges will be expanding that potential to the masses. Innovators like Bridge are exploring surgery-free approaches to broaden access, and we’re proud our Ultrasound-on-Chip technology can help advance that pursuit."
