Brainlab & Amrita Hospital Partner to Set Up North India’s First Brain & Spine Centre of Excellence in Faridabad
The partnership will combine Amrita Hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and Brainlab’s intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation technologies
German Medtech company Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine.
The proposed facility is expected to equip Brainlab’s Loop-X, a Mobile imaging robot, and seeks to provide access to technology-enabled neurosurgical and spine care while creating a platform for clinical training and knowledge sharing.
The partnership will combine Amrita Hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and Brainlab’s intraoperative imaging and surgical navigation technologies.
Speaking on the new development, Dr Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said, “The centre would strengthen the hospital’s capabilities for complex neuro and spine care. With advanced intraoperative imaging and navigation, we can help our clinical teams by providing better visibility during surgery and allowing for verification in the operating room itself.”
The Loop-X is designed as a robotic mobile imaging system to generate 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images inside the operating room, enabling surgical teams to view detailed images during surgery that can be integrated with the navigation system.
The intraoperative imaging technology is intended to assess anatomy, verify implant positioning, and obtain additional images during a procedure without moving the patient to a separate imaging facility.
This feature is expected to enable surgical teams to review updated anatomical information and verify the outcome of a procedure before the patient leaves the operating room.
In addition, Loop-X also allows imaging to be tailored to the area being treated and improve procedure outcomes. According to Brainlab, this can help optimize radiation exposure based on clinical requirements.
Commenting on the new partnership, Aseem Malhotra, Managing Director, Brainlab India, said, “With Loop-X, our mobile imaging robot, we are bringing intraoperative 2D and 3D imaging together with robotic functionality to support connected surgical workflows.”
The system combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D intraoperative imaging and provides a scalable field of view of the procedure.
Its gantry opening is designed to accommodate different patient positions, while its robotic configuration allows imaging to be repeated during a procedure when required.
The centre will leverage the system to support complex brain and spine procedures and serve as a hub for clinical training, technology demonstrations and collaboration among surgeons and healthcare professionals.
