Boston Scientific Fully Restores Operations After Cyberattack
The company said its distribution network is now operating at or above normal levels as it works to fulfill customer orders and clear backlogs accumulated during the disruption.
Boston Scientific has fully restored its manufacturing, order fulfillment, and shipping operations following a cybersecurity incident that disrupted the medical device company’s global operations on August 25, 2026.
The company said its distribution network is now operating at or above normal levels as it works to fulfill customer orders and clear backlogs accumulated during the disruption. Some customers may continue to face temporary delays as the company prioritizes manufacturing and distribution to meet demand.
Boston Scientific said it has been working with CrowdStrike and other third-party cybersecurity experts since the incident. The company has not identified evidence of ongoing threat activity or compromise of its systems or products following the containment procedures implemented on August 25.
The cyberattack, disclosed late last month, forced Boston Scientific to shut down manufacturing, order processing and shipping operations globally. CEO Mike Mahoney provided further details at the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference on Thursday, saying that all of the company’s plants and distribution centers were shut down during the disruption.
Mahoney said the supply interruption affected hospital procedures in some regions because healthcare facilities had limited access to Boston Scientific products. While some locations had adequate inventory, others faced shortages, prompting hospitals to seek supplies from alternative sources.
The disruption is also expected to affect Boston Scientific’s financial performance. The company said earlier this week that it is likely to miss its third-quarter and full-year sales and earnings guidance as a result of the operational impact.
Mahoney said the company has not yet determined the full financial impact of the cyberattack. He identified the rate at which lost business can be recovered as a key factor in assessing the overall impact. Boston Scientific is expected to provide more details during its next earnings call on October 28.
The cyberattack comes as Boston Scientific faces other business challenges. The company has reduced its financial guidance twice this year amid difficulties in several key businesses.
