Apollo Hospitals Appoints Upasana Kamineni Konidela as Director of Projects Amid INR 8,600 Cr Expansion

She will work closely with Apollo’s leadership, clinical teams, and project partners on the development of new hospitals, expansion of existing facilities, and upgrades of current hospital infrastructure.

Apollo Hospitals has appointed Upasana Kamineni Konidela as Director of Projects to advance the expansion of upcoming hospital projects and infrastructure upgrades across India.

Kamineni Konidela has been previously associated with Apollo’s healthcare and social-impact initiatives and has also served as Vice Chairperson of CSR at Apollo Hospitals.

More recently, she was involved in the development of Apollo’s 400-bed hospital in Hyderabad’s Financial District.

In her new role, Kamineni Konidela will work closely with Apollo’s leadership, clinical teams and project partners on the development of new hospitals, expansion of existing facilities and upgrades of current hospital infrastructure.

Her mandate will also include strengthening project processes and coordination from the design stage through commissioning.

Her priorities will include new facilities, expansions and upgrades to existing hospitals, and consistent design standards across patient spaces. She will also work with project teams while focusing on clear signage and wayfinding, easier navigation, efficient clinical spaces, and a more comfortable experience for patients and their families.

Commenting on her new role, Upasana Kamineni Konidela said, “My grandfather, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, built Apollo on the belief that world-class healthcare should be within reach of people in India. My responsibility is to carry that belief into the hospitals we build and the facilities we improve. As Apollo grows, I want every project to serve its neighbourhood, create meaningful opportunities for the people who work with us, and help more people take their health into their own hands. We have an opportunity to show the world what thoughtful design, compassionate care and Indian clinical excellence can achieve together.”

The latest announcement comes amid the group advancing an estimated INR 8,600 crore expansion programme across India.

The group has also earmarked INR 1,565 crore for listed brownfield expansion projects

The programme covers projects across Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru, alongside Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati and Ranchi, among other locations.

Out of this, the particular projects and budgets within Upasana’s mandate are yet to be confirmed by Apollo.

Sharing the announcement in a social post, Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals, said, “Over the years, I have watched her engage with healthcare from many different perspectives. Through our work in communities, her commitment to preventive health and wellbeing, and most recently, her leadership in bringing our 400-bed hospital at Financial District, Hyderabad, to life, she has developed an understanding of healthcare that goes well beyond buildings and infrastructure. As Apollo embarks on an important phase of expansion across India, Upasana will now bring that perspective to Projects, helping shape the next generation of Apollo hospitals.”

Apollo Group recently opened its 76th hospital in Hyderabad’s Financial District, a 400-bed facility designed as a next-generation smart hospital incorporating AI and digital integration.
