AI in Breast Cancer Screening: How Artificial Intelligence is Improving Early Detection in India
At present, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in India. However, the statistics reveal some shocking facts: the incidence of breast cancer is around 25.8 cases per 100,000 women in the country, and in urban India, one woman in every 22 women will have breast cancer over her lifetime.
But the screening process is still underdeveloped. For instance, according to government data from Punjab, only 0.3% of women in the age range of 30 to 49 years old have undergone breast cancer screening, while cervical cancer screening numbers are no better. Such numbers do not belong specifically to Punjab; they reflect a trend across the whole country, where late detection, and not the actual disease severity, leads to bad results. With the help of artificial intelligence, the gap can be reduced, and India has already started becoming a testing field for such screening.
