AbbVie and Iambic Partner to Accelerate AI-Driven Small Molecule Drug Discovery
The partnership will combine Iambic’s molecular superintelligence platform with AbbVie’s therapeutic-area and drug discovery expertise.
AbbVie and Iambic have entered a multi-year collaboration to use Iambic’s AI platform to accelerate the discovery and development of small molecule therapies across immunology, neuroscience and oncology.
The partnership will combine Iambic’s molecular superintelligence platform with AbbVie’s therapeutic-area and drug discovery expertise. The companies will pursue drug candidates with potential to be first-in-class or best-in-class.
Iambic’s platform is designed to evaluate multiple molecular properties simultaneously during drug discovery. Its technologies, including Enchant and NeuralPLexer, are intended to help researchers identify promising molecules while reducing the time required to assess potential drug candidates.
The collaboration will use Enchant v3, Iambic’s next-generation multimodal transformer model. The system integrates biomedical data from across the drug discovery process and is designed to test multiple drug design hypotheses in parallel and at scale.
According to Iambic, Enchant v3 has been trained on more than 6,000 molecular properties and is designed to improve prediction accuracy across drug discovery and development.
“Combining Iambic's platform with the drug-hunting expertise of AbbVie scientists can help us make more precise decisions about the molecules we pursue,” said Jonathon Sedgwick, Ph.D., senior vice president and global head of discovery research at AbbVie.
The companies said the collaboration aims to design and evaluate drug candidates more efficiently across the three therapeutic areas. AbbVie said the partnership is part of its broader use of purpose-built AI capabilities in research and development.
Under the agreement, Iambic will receive an upfront payment and will be eligible for success-based milestone payments and tiered royalties on net sales of products generated through the collaboration.
