AB PM-JAY Expands Nationwide as All 36 States & UTs Join, Inter-State Cashless Care Crosses INR 8,383 Cr

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has achieved full nationwide implementation across all 36 States and Union Territories, while expanding health coverage to more families and senior citizens.
The scheme has also strengthened access to cashless treatment by enabling more than 29 lakh inter-state cashless hospital admissions worth INR 8,383.97 Cr through its digital portability network.
The scheme initially covered 10.74 crore economically vulnerable families identified through the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011, representing nearly 40% of India's population.
In January 2023, the government revised the target to 12 crore families to reflect population growth over the previous decade.
Coverage was further expanded in March 2024 with the inclusion of nearly 37 lakh families of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers.
More recently, health assurance has been extended to around 6 crore senior citizens aged 70 years and above belonging to 4.5 crore families, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

According to government data, as of June 30, 2026, AB PM-JAY has authorized 29.05 lakh inter-state portability hospital admissions with claims exceeding INR 8,383.97 Cr.
The nationwide digital platform enables hospitals to verify beneficiaries, process admissions and settle claims electronically, ensuring a paperless and seamless experience across state boundaries.
The government has also continued to promote awareness of AB PM-JAY through information, education and communication campaigns across newspapers, television, radio, community outreach, digital platforms, social media and beneficiary testimonials.
At empanelled hospitals, Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitras support patients by assisting with beneficiary verification, cashless admissions, hospital coordination and other processes, helping ensure that portability benefits remain accessible to those seeking treatment away from their home states.
