AB PM-JAY Delivers INR 1.91 Lakh Cr in Cashless Treatments Through 37,000 Hospitals: MoS Health
Speaking at the National Health Authority's (NHA) two-day review meeting, Chintan Shivir, on the implementation of AB PM-JAY and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Jadhav said the scheme continues to expand access to quality healthcare under the government's flagship health insurance program.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav said the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has facilitated cashless treatments worth more than INR 1.91 lakh crore through a network of over 37,000 empaneled hospitals across India.
"Every cashless treatment provided under AB PM-JAY reaffirms the commitment to the spirit of Antyodaya to ensure that the last person in the queue receives priority in accessing quality healthcare," Jadhav said.
Reviewing the scheme's performance over the past seven years, he noted that AB PM-JAY has become one of the world's largest government-funded health insurance programs by enabling cashless treatment through its nationwide hospital network.
On the digital health front, Jadhav said the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has generated more than 94 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers and linked over 100 crore digital health records.
He said the next phase of the mission, referred to as ABDM 2.0, should focus on improving patient access to health records across states, simplifying the discovery of nearby healthcare facilities, and strengthening integration with AB PM-JAY rather than measuring success solely by the number of digital records created.
The minister inaugurated the two-day review meeting attended by senior officials from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the National Health Authority, and state and Union Territory governments. During the event, he released the NHA's annual report along with implementation guideline compendiums covering district implementation units, beneficiary empowerment, and hospital empanelment.
NHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal said the Chintan Shivir serves as a platform for states and Union Territories to assess progress, exchange best practices, and address implementation challenges under both flagship programs.
Barnwal also highlighted the role of state-level data analytics and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in strengthening healthcare delivery. He cited digital initiatives such as the upgraded Ayushman App, Aarogya Setu 2.0, Ayushman Sarathi, and the National Drug Registry as tools to improve access to digital health services.
The review meeting also assessed progress in beneficiary coverage, claims management, hospital empanelment, Ayushman card generation, enrollment of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, implementation of the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, and expansion of interoperable digital health services under ABDM.
