WellSpan Names Laureen Driscoll as Next President and CEO
Driscoll currently serves as chief executive for the South Division of Providence, overseeing strategy, growth, integration, operations, and financial performance across 17 hospitals in Northern and Southern California.
WellSpan Health has named Laureen T. Driscoll, MBA, MSN, RN, as its next president and CEO, effective Jan. 4, 2027. She will succeed Roxanna Gapstur, PhD, RN, who will retire after serving as the health system’s president and CEO since January 2019.
Driscoll currently serves as chief executive for the South Division of Providence, overseeing strategy, growth, integration, operations, and financial performance across 17 hospitals in Northern and Southern California. Her division has approximately 41,000 caregivers and $10.3 billion in net operating revenue.
Her appointment follows a national search conducted by the WellSpan Health Board of Directors’ Search Committee in partnership with Korn Ferry. The board evaluated healthcare executives nationwide based on their leadership experience and ability to advance WellSpan’s strategy and mission.
Before joining Providence in 2022, Driscoll held several senior leadership positions at MultiCare Health System, including president of Tacoma General and Allenmore hospitals, president of MultiCare Deaconess Hospital and vice president of operations.
Earlier in her career, she held leadership roles at Swedish Health System, Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and Maine Medical Center.
Driscoll holds an executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington Foster School of Business, a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine. She is a registered nurse licensed in California and Washington.
WellSpan Board Chair Joe Crosswhite said Driscoll brings experience in leading complex health systems through transformation, with a focus on quality, access, culture and operational performance.
Driscoll said she plans to work with WellSpan’s team members, physicians, advanced practice professionals, patients and community leaders as she takes on the role.
Gapstur announced her planned retirement in April and will continue leading WellSpan through Jan. 3, 2027, to support leadership continuity and the health system’s ongoing priorities.
