Stanford Health Care, Alameda Health System Partner to Strengthen St. Rose Hospital Services
The collaboration is aimed at reinforcing the hospital’s operational stability while improving access to advanced care for residents in Hayward and surrounding communities.
Stanford Health Care has partnered with Alameda Health System (AHS) to enhance and expand specialized healthcare services at St. Rose Hospital, an independent non-profit hospital in Hayward, California.
The collaboration is aimed at reinforcing the hospital’s operational stability while improving access to advanced care for residents in Hayward and surrounding communities. Stanford Health Care Executive Vice President and COO Rick Shumway said the initiative focuses on ensuring patients can continue receiving high-quality care close to home.
As part of the agreement, Stanford Health Care physicians will also provide care at St. Rose Hospital’s skilled nursing facility. The arrangement is expected to increase utilization of hospital services while expanding clinical access for patients.
The partnership includes several planned initiatives, such as the development of a community-based inpatient medical psychiatric unit and the leasing of select medical-surgical beds to Stanford Health Care for managing high-quality inpatient services. Additionally, operating room capacity at St. Rose Hospital will be expanded for use by Stanford surgeons and procedural specialists.
The collaboration will also support the AHS/St. Rose Foundation to advance community health programs and local healthcare initiatives. A timeline for the rollout of these services has not yet been disclosed.
St. Rose Hospital became an affiliate of Alameda Health System in November 2024 amid concerns over potential closure. Since then, AHS has reported improvements in the hospital’s financial stability.
AHS CEO James Jackson said the hospital has moved into a financially stable position and is now operating in the black. He noted that the new partnership builds on these improvements and reinforces St. Rose Hospital’s role as a key healthcare provider for the East Bay region.
The initiative is expected to expand service capacity and strengthen long-term care delivery within the community hospital system.
