Precision Neuroscience Raises $250M in Series D for Brain-Computer Interface

New York-based brain-computer interface (BCI) company Precision Neuroscience has raised $250 million in an oversubscribed Series D financing round, bringing its total capital raised to $430 million. The funding will support the company’s clinical program, further FDA review of its technology and preparations for commercialization.

Pershing Square, the Ackman Oxman Institute and an undisclosed leading life sciences investment fund co-led the round. Duquesne Family Office, ARK Invest, Invus, B Capital, Mirae Asset Capital, Korea Investment Partners, Hitachi Ventures, JSL Health Capital and Mubadala Capital were among the other participating investors.

Precision Neuroscience is developing its Layer 7 Cortical Interface, a thin, flexible electrode array designed to conform to the brain’s surface without penetrating brain tissue. The device records neural activity and forms part of the company’s BCI system, which is designed to translate brain signals into commands for connected digital devices.

The recorded signals are transmitted to a processing unit positioned between the skull and scalp, where they are translated into device commands.

Founded in 2021 by neurosurgeon Ben Rapoport and Michael Mager, Precision plans to use the latest funding to expand its clinical program, advance Layer 7 through FDA review and move toward commercialization.

In January, the company announced a partnership with Medtronic to develop a neurosurgical system combining Layer 7 with Medtronic’s StealthStation surgical navigation platform. The system is intended to combine electrical activity recorded from the brain’s surface with 3D anatomical imaging to provide surgeons with information on brain function and structure during procedures.

Precision received FDA 510(k) clearance for Layer 7 in 2025, authorizing commercial use with implantation durations of up to 30 days. The company said the clearance also supports clinical applications including intraoperative brain mapping.

The company previously raised $102 million in Series C funding in 2024, following a $41 million Series B round in 2023 and $12 million Series A round in 2021. Its BCI competitors include Neuralink and Synchron.
