BPL Medical Technologies Acquires Majority Stake in Medec International
The acquisition is expected to strengthen BPL Medical Technologies’ control over product development, quality, functionality and margins while reducing its reliance on external suppliers for anaesthesia workstations and ventilators.
BPL Medical Technologies has acquired a majority stake in Medec International BV, adding anaesthesia workstations, ventilators, three patents and an international distribution network spanning more than 30 countries to its medical technology portfolio.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen BPL Medical Technologies’ control over product development, quality, functionality and margins while reducing its reliance on external suppliers for anaesthesia workstations and ventilators. The transaction also brings specialized engineering expertise and intellectual property into the company’s product development ecosystem.
Medec’s development pipeline includes an electronic vaporiser and a value-engineered version of the Caelus anaesthesia workstation. These additions are expected to expand BPL Medtech’s capabilities in anaesthesia and respiratory care while supporting further product development.
Guruswamy Krishnamoorthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, said, “This strategic acquisition marks an important milestone in BPL Medical Technologies' growth trajectory and our ambition to emerge as a stronger global player in medical technology. Medec brings differentiated technology, intellectual property and an established international footprint that complement our anaesthesia and respiratory care portfolio. This tech acquisition will strengthen our product capabilities, deepen our control over innovation and quality, and open new markets. We see significant opportunities to leverage BPL's global network to accelerate Medec's growth and create greater value for customers worldwide.”
Medec also brings an established commercial network of distributors across more than 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Southeast Asia and Latin America. The network is expected to provide BPL Medtech with additional channels to introduce Medec’s CE-certified technologies into new markets and expand its international operations.
Kristof Braem, Managing Director of Medec International BV, said, “This acquisition marks an important phase in Medec's journey as we become part of a global medical technology organisation. BPL Medical Technologies brings a strong technology focus and an established presence across healthcare markets, creating opportunities to build on Medec's capabilities and extend its reach. We look forward to combining our expertise with BPL Medtech's resources and global network to support the next phase of growth.”
The acquisition also aligns with BPL Medical Technologies’ medium-term technology roadmap, which includes exploring the integration of Medec’s technologies with its Cortex AI platform. The potential integration could connect anaesthesia capabilities with BPL Medtech’s existing digital technology ecosystem.
